MajidiCelebrating1PTV – TEHRAN, Esteghlal has suffered a stunning home defeat against Naft Abadan in the 16th week of the Iranian Premier League (IPL).

The IPL pacesetter lost 2-1 against Naft Abadan on its own turf at a sparsely populated Azadi Stadium on Tuesday.

The visitors took the lead nine minutes into the match when Siamak Kouhnavard lashed home from inside the box.

The Blues’ skipper Farhad Majidi leveled the scoring on the half hour mark on a neat pass from Fereydoun Zandi after beating the offside trap.

Naft Abadan restored the lead two minutes later, when Blues’ keeper Mehdi Rahmati bounced a thundering free kick by Naft Abadan’s Malian forward Founéké Sy and Hadi Ramezani was on hand to ripple the back of the net.

Despite the loss, the Blues still top standings with 33 points, followed by Naft Tehran with three points adrift and Teraktorsazi and Saba both with 28 points in the third and fourth spots, respectively.
