Iran unchanged as FIFA reveals latest rankings
TEHRAN TIMES – ZURICH, Iran did not move on the latest FIFA Rankings released on Wednesday.
The Persians remain 45 with 616 points in the world and fourth in Asia. Japan remains the best Asian team with 884 points followed by Australia (851) and South Korea (752).
World and European champions Spain remain unchallenged at the top of the table, followed by the Netherlands, Germany and Uruguay, who are all still competing in an exciting head-to-head battle for second place. As the top team at year-end, Spain is the Team of the Year for the fourth year in a row.
Wales have been named “best mover of the year” in the final 2011 FIFA world rankings after they gained more ranking points than any other side in the past 12 months.
Under the stewardship of Gary Speed, who committed suicide at his home in Cheshire last month, they rose from 116th to finish the year in 48th place.
