Carlos Queiroz confirms Iran-Jordan friendly
TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz confirmed a friendly match between Iran and Jordan in Dubai, UAE, in late February.
According to the Portuguese, Iran will play Jordan on February 23 in Dubai. Iran is gearing up for the World Cup qualifier against Qatar, which is scheduled for February 29 in Tehran.
“We are not going to win the World Cup, first we want to qualify for the event and then get good results in the competitions,” Queiroz said.
“I rejected to play Ivory Coast but playing Sweden was not on the cards. Nobody never told me about the match even tough if they told me about it, I would have rejected because I had promised to the Iranian football officials to hold one friendly on February 23,” he added.
“Some people don’t care about advancing to the World Cup and criticize our programs, but I am responsible to take Iran to World Cup, that’s why I am here. They have to assist us to accomplish that” Queiroz concluded.
