“I am no superman”: Carlos Queiroz
TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz said that he alone cannot bring the necessary change of the county’s football managers and coaches.
Speaking after the training session, the Portuguese coach said: “Some of the Iranian coaches are not honest, unfortunately. They pretend their players are injured but we see them in the next match playing in the Iran Professional League.”
In a reference to the discipline of Iran’s clubs, Queiroz said, “I am no superman. I need help and I cannot change anything. I am lonely, the Iranian coaches have to assist me.”
“I am a member of the Iranian football family. We are going to achieve some progress and everybody should do their part to help us.” the 59-year-old said.
“Iran’s league should reduce in number from 18 to 16 teams. In my opinion, we need a young team, with players under the age of 23 years old. If you have a better idea, let me know,” he said.
Iran is scheduled to play Qatar on February 29 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
“I will play a strong team against Qatar. We are going to win the game and take a step closer to the finals,” the former Real Madrid coach said.
Iran is already through to the final qualifying round, while Qatar and Bahrain are still trying to book a place for the stage too.
