karimi-pers08PFDC – RIYADH, On Wednsday, Persepolis and Saudi Arabian heavy-weights Al Hilal settled for an exciting draw in the Saudi capital, Riyadh in the Asian Champions League.

Near the break, Hilal’s Osama Hawsawi illegally handled the ball to prevent Mohammad Nouri’s goal. With no hesitation referee Lee Min Ho sent Hawsawi off and awarded a well deserved penalty.

Persepolis skipper Ali Karimi stepped up to the plate and flawlessly converted a penalty kick to put Persepolis in the lead by the end of the half.

Minutes later Mohammad Badamaki’s shot from a Karimi pass came close to giving the red a two goal lead, but the shot skimmed the cross-bar.

Ten minutes later, an impressive freekick from Hilal’s Shalhoub got the Saudi’s back on their feet, restoring parity.

As the minutes ticked by, Youssef El Arabi charged past two Piroozi defenders on the left wing, although his strong shot was tipped away fantastically by Bosnian keeper Asmir Avdukic.

The match leaves Persepolis and Al Hilal with one point a piece. Persepolis is scheduled to play Al Shabab of the United Arab Emirates two weeks from now in Tehran’s Azadi Sports Complex.
