Persepolis thrash Al Shabab in ACL [VIDEO]
PFDC – TEHRAN, Iranian heavyweights Persepolis thrashed Al Shabab of the UAE in Tehran’s grand Azadi Sport Complex in an Asian Champions League group match on Wednesday.
Just eight minutes into the match, Libyan striker Eamon Zayed put Persepolis ahead after a Mehrdad Pooladi free kick.
Two minutes after the restart, Zayed increased his and the Reds’ goal count after a nice back heel flick that left Shabab keeper Ismael Jumaa in despair.
Just six minutes later, a successful run and assist from Persepolis and Team Melli winger Gholamreza Rezaei resulted in the completion of Eamon Zayeds hat-trick after his one-touch, stellar shot found the back of Shabab’s net.
In the 56th minute of the match, Persepolis’ Mohammad Nosrati fouled Abbas in the penalty box and the Japanese referee made no hesitation to call a penalty kick. Brazilian Da Silva Ciel made no mistake in converting, marking Shabab’s only goal against Bosnian keeper Avdukic.
Right on the hour mark, Gholamreza Rezaei took advantage of keeper Jumaa’s mistake thanks to an impressive Mohammad Nouri throughball to put Shabab’s deficit back to three goals.
Just two minutes later, Japanese referee Musaki Tuma pointed to the spot after a foul on Iranian winger Alireza Feshangchi. The homeside’s skipper Ali Karimi slotted the penalty home with ease, steering Jumaa the wrong way and putting Persepolis 5-1 ahead.
Three minutes from time, Feshangchi converted a successful one-on-one attack, putting Persepolis of Iran 6-1 ahead and fans in Tehran’s Azadi stadium in an uproar for the last time today.
The win on match-day two puts the nine time Iranian league winners on top of Group E.
Persepolis will face Al Gharafa of Qatar two weeks from now in the Tani Bin Jassin Stadium.
