Al Hilal defeat Persepolis in ACL [VIDEO]
PFDC – TEHRAN, Al Hilal visited Persepolis on Tuesday on the fifth week of the Asian Champions League in the Azadi Stadium, both teams looking to snatch the available three points.
The game came off to a jumping start for Persepolis in front of almost 75,000 specators after Mohammad Nouri’s shot shattered the wood-work.
Hilal came close in the 39th minute after Al Shalhoub’s shot was tipped wide by the Red’s Bosnian keeper Asmir Avdukic.
Ten minutes after the restart Persepolis could have put themselves ahead when Gholamreza Rezaei’s outside pass to Nouri was blasted over the goal.
Yousef al Arabi almost came close in the 57th minute, his header just going above Avdukic’s crossbar.
Arabi’s pressure caved in two minutes later when his shot slid past the keeper and into the back of the net after a counter attack.
15 minutes from the whistle, Fraidi had an excellent opportunity to make Hilal’s talley two to seal the three points, although his one on one chance was saved by Avdukic.
Moments later Mohammad-Reza Aliasgari could have equalized for the Reds’, shooting the ball wide from six yards.
Avdukic once again kept Persepolis in the game, pushing Arabi’s eight-teen yard shot out for a corner.
The 1-0 loss, puts the Iranians second in Group D, the Saudi’s take the three points and sit at the top with nine.
Denizli’s men will face Al Shabab of the United Arab Emirates two weeks from now on May 15th, in the Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium where anything but a loss would seal the Reds’ progress to the playoff stage.
