Iran crush Mozambique in Karaj [VIDEO]
PFDC – KARAJ, Iran held Mozambique in the Enghilab Karaj Stadium on Wednesday, crushing the African team by three goals. Iran boss Carlos Quieroz fielded a ‘B’ team in the match, Mozambique also had to do without any legionnaires.
In the ninth minute of the match, Mohammad Ghazi failed to score a glorious opportunity to open the scoring for Iran, when his shot from six yards was saved by 36-year-old João Kapango.
However, just seconds later Mohammad Gholami’s header reached the back of the net, putting Team Melli one ahead.
Thirty minutes later, Ghasem Dehnavi extended Iran’s lead, sliding his shot into an open goal.
Almost thirteen minutes after the restart, a Mahini pass off a counter attack was just enough for Pejman Nouri to make it three for the hosts, scoring his fourth goal ever for Iran.
After 80 minutes, Mozambique were reduced to ten men after a reckless challenge from behind on young subsitute winger Payam Sadeghian. Just two minutes later, goalkeeper Kapango was shown the red card after going into the referee’s book for the second time for complaining.
Nouri could have increased his international tally to five goals after 86 minutes, when a foul on substitute striker Reza Norouzi was called in the penalty box. Nouri, however, failed to convert the spotkick, shooting the ball off target.
Iran will next travel to a training camp in Turkey, and is planned to face Iraq on June 27 in Istanbul in order to prepare for the 2014 World Cup qualification matches against Uzbekistan in Tashkent and Qatar in Tehran in June.
Iran has been grouped with South Korea, Uzbekistan, Lebanon and Qatar.
