U16 drawn with Kuwait, Yemen and Laos
TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Iran has been drawn in Group A of the AFC U16 Championship, which will be held in Tehran from September 22 to October 6.
The 2008 winner Iran will face eighth-ranked Kuwait, 2002 runner-up Yemen, and Laos in Group A.
“It is true that we are happy with the draw result,” said Iran coach Parhizkar during an interview after the draw.
“But we have to remember that all the teams in this tournament qualified from a hard competition. It means that every team is strong enough and the gaps between the teams are not really big.
“So we have to be very careful even if we play underdog,” added Parhizkar
Australia has been placed with Iraq, Oman and Thailand in Group B.
In Group C, defending champion DPR Korea will face Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia and Japan.
Group D is the battle front for last edition’s runners-up Uzbekistan and Syria who came fourth in 2006 and bottom-ranked India and China.
