Denizli03GOAL – DUBAI, Persepolis coach Mustafa Denizli believes his side can win the 2012 AFC Champions League following their 3-1 victory over Al Shabab on Tuesday which set up a Round of 16 clash with Saudi Arabian giants Al Ittihad.

The Tehran outfit progressed in second spot in Group D, behind another Saudi powerhouse Al Hilal, but Denizli believes they can overcome the disadvantage of an away Round of 16 clash and potentially lift the trophy.

“I believe this team can go all the way,” Denizli told reporters after the win over Al Shabab.

“From now on, we start the knock-out matches and we will do our best to repay the belief our supporters have shown in us. Whatever our next game, we promise we will do whatever is worthy of the Piroozi name.”

He added: “It was a difficult group and we would have hoped to advance as the winner.”

Persepolis have been starved of continental success in recent years, having crashed out of the ACL at the group stage last year, while in 2009 they bowed out at the Round of 16. The Turk said he hoped he could fix that for the fans’ sake.

The Tehran giants finished the 2011-12 Iranian Pro League season down in a disappointing 12th after a troubled campaign on and off the field.
