Nazari aims World Cup
PFDC – ÄNGELHOLM, Team Melli invitee Omid Nazari of Swedish Ängelholms FF talked to Swedish media ahead joining Iran’s training camp in Turkey next week.
The 21-year-old is invited to join Iran’s national team’s training camp in Turkey next week, however, doesn’t seem to be in Iran boss’ Carlos Queiroz’ plans for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
“He [Carlos Queiroz] came to seem in Malmö a few months ago”, the midfielder described his first encounter with the Iranian national team coach on Swedish website ‘Svenskafans’.
“Then he told me he wants me for the Iranian national team.
“They [Iranian scouts] observed me a couple of times at Malmö, but now they want to see me in a camp”, the former Malmö FF midfielder explained.
Asked if he had also followed a Swedish national team call-up, Nazari explained he is not sure, but that he now definitely made his choice.
“Sweden is my country. I grew up here and so I feel Swedish. But Iran also always was in my heart”, the Team Melli candidate added.
Nazari, who had a very impressive season with Ängelholms FF so far, said he doesn’t know too many of Iran’s national team players yet, but is eager to meet the likes of Javad Nekounam and Ashkan Dejagah.
He also talked about his World Cup ambitions with Iran.
“It was always a dream to play at a World Cup. I think Iran has great chances to qualify.
“I will do my best to become part of Iran’s World Cup squad, but we will see.”
Omid Nazari will fly to Turkey after his club’s homegame against Falkenberg on Monday and is expected to join the Iranian national team’s training on Tuesday.
The brother of Malmö midfielder Amin Nazari will be unavailable for one game for Ängelholms, however, is expected to return to Sweden on June 2.
This means it’s currently not planned that he will play in Iran’s World Cup qualifiers in Uzbekistan (June 3) and against Qatar (June 12).
