queiroz-press1TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz said that his players are going to defeat Qatar in their 2014 World Cup qualifier.

“Our confidence is high and we want to do our best against Qatar. We will never take anything for granted and respect our opponents,” Queiroz said at the news conference ahead of Tuesday’s qualifier against Qatar in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

“Qatar has come to Tehran to stop us but we are ready to beat them in our home game. I know both of the teams will show a good performance. This match is a must-win clash for the two teams,” the Portuguese added.

“Iran defeated Uzbekistan in its opener and we are happy to get three points. My boys did their best against Uzbekistan and eventually defeated the team in the dying moments of the match. To be winner is more important than playing beautiful without a victory,” Queiroz stated.

Iran is in Group A with South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Lebanon in the final round of Asian World Cup qualifying and need to finish at least in second place to directly qualify for Brazil 2014.
