Team Omid downs Qatar
PFDC – MALACCA, Iran’s U22 celebrated their second win in as many matches in the qualifiers for the AFC U22 championship on Monday, defeating Qatar 2-1.
Just two days after the 1-0 victory over Kuwait, Team Omid scored two consecutive goals in minute 29 and 31 courtesy of new Persepolis defender Mohammad-Reza Khanzadeh and Foolad Khuzestan striker Kaveh Rezaei.
Qatar’s goal in injury time of second half came too late to put Alireza Mansourian’s team’s victory in doubt.
Also on Monday, Tajikistan defeated Maldives 2-1 whereas Kuwait defeated Bahrain 1-0.
On Thursday, Iran will take on pointless Maldives, however, without the goalscorer of the first game, Amin Hajmohammadi, who will serve a one game suspension after picking up his second yellow card of the competition.
Iran is leading the group of which the top two directly qualify for the tournament finals. The whole qualification of Iran’s group is played as a tourney in Malaysia.
