U22 thrash Maldives
PFDC – MALACCA, Iran’s U22 booked the third win in the third Asian championship qualifier, routing minnows Maldives 7-0 in Malaysia on Thursday.
Without the suspended Amin Hajmohammadi and the rested Mohsen Mosalman and Yaghoub Karimi, Alireza Mansourian’s men took a 3-0 halftime lead thanks to goals from Payam Sadeghian, Kaveh Rezaei and Morteza Tabrizi.
A brace from Saipa midfielder Milad Gharibi, Pas Hamedan’s Tabrizi’s second goal and a late goal from substitute Bahram Dabbagh then completed the thrashing.
Group leaders Iran will next take on Tajikistan and could seal the AFC U22 Championship qualification with a win, whereas even a point would probably be sufficient.
Team Omid, who before defeated Kuwait and Qatar in the qualifiers which are held as tournament in Malacca, Malaysia, will then take on Bahrain in the final match.
