Neko_applaudingPFDC – PAMPLONA, Osasuna and Iran midfielder Javad Nekounam is on the brink of leaving Osasuna, Spanish and Iranian sources report.

The veteran defensive midfielder is one of Osasuna’s best payed players, and might be sold to ease the club’s huge financial problems.

Osasuna set a € 2.5 million price tag for Nekounam, who joined the Basques in 2006 and scored 24 goals in 149 appearances.

So far Esteghal Tehran and an unnamed Qatari club have made offers, however, Esteghlal seemingly are unable to fulfill the financial demands of both the club and the player.

Also interest from Turkish Super League is once more reported, but no club has made an official attempt to sign the 31-year-old yet.

Nekounam had renewed his contract with Osasuna until 2013 last summer, despite offers from Spain, Turkey, Greece and Qatar.
