PFDC – BILBAO, Spanish side Athletic Bilbao has expressed interest in playing a friendly match in Iran for preparation ahead of the upcoming 2012-2013 season of La Liga.

The Basque club originally requested playing Team Melli to the Iranian embassy located in Madrid. Abbas Torabian, head of the Iranian futsal committee recently was in Spain negotiating with a Spanish coach about the Iranian futsal team to replace former Team Melli futsal coach Ali Sanei after a disappointing performance in the 2012 Asian Futsal Championship and alerted the Iranian Football Federation (IFF) regarding the request for review.

The IFF have yet to respond to the proposal, but are in search of a good opponent in August anyways, after a planned friendly with Tunisia reportedly couldn’t be finalized.

According to the reports, Tunisia insisted the match should be played on August 13, whereas Iran were eager to play on the FIFA matchday August 15 in order to have all foreign based players available.

Los Leones (Lions) finished 10th in the previous edition of the La Liga and reached the final of the Spanish Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Iran are in the midst of Asian World Cup Qualifiers and will face Syria on September fourth in preparation for a vital qualifier against Lebanon seven days later.
