queiroz-press1PFDC – TEHRAN, Iran boss Carlos Queiroz expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance a day after the 2-2 draw with Tunisia in Hungary, but voiced his discontent with the final result.

Team Melli had indeed shown a convincing display, but failed to capitalize on many scoring opportunities while conceding goals on the only two occassions real chances were allowed.

Queiroz pinned the problem down to sloppy defending and to lack of concentration in front of goal.

“We had several one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper, but failed to take advantage of them”, Queiroz told reporters.

“On the other hand we conceded two easy goals.

“I am happy with the overall performance of the team, but we gave away a certain victory”, Queiroz said, who also added that his team was punished for not keeping the pressure on the opponent twice after taking the lead.

However, the Portugese said he sees no big problem as these problems can be solved in future.

The former Real boss also was full of praise for Maziar Zare and Omid Nazari. While according to Queiroz midfielder Zare showed a good performance as centerback and thereby recommended himself as alternative for that position, the Team Melli boss noted that Nazari showed a very sovereign performance which could be expected from an experienced veteran rather than a 21-year-old debutant.

Queiroz furthermore explained that the expected second debutant, Reza Ghoochannejhad, couldn’t be fielded despite having trained very well, because his player passport hasn’t been issued by FIFA yet.

Iran’s coach concluded that he was very satisfied with the training camp and that the players delivered what had been trained in the days before the game, adding that he is looking forward to the next training camp in Jordan next month to continue the good work with the player.
