Iran football team needs fan support, coach says [VIDEO]
TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz has called on the fans of the national team to get behind his side at the 2014 World Cup qualifier against South Korea.
Iran lost to Lebanon 1-0 in Group A and will schedule to face the group leader South Korea on 16 October.
“We want the fans to support us against South Korea. We can get result if our fans are behind us. Also, I believe in my assistants and I am sure we can reach our goals,” the Portuguese said.
When he was asked about the historic defeat against Lebanon, Queiroz said, “Without a doubt, I am not satisfied with the result against Lebanon. Football is a game of errors and a team that takes advantage of its rival’s errors wins the match. Also, Lebanon has progressed and has defeated South Korea once.”
“I want my players to be like the warriors. I don’t expect my players to cry after suffering a defeat. Also, I don’t expect some people treat us like the victims. My team will come back stronger,” Queiroz added.
The Persians are grouped with South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Lebanon for the final round of the Asian World Cup qualifying stages and need to finish at least second to qualify for Brazil 2014.
Queiroz’s team is second in the group, three points under South Korea, who has seven points.
