Iran books place in FIFA U-17 World Cup [VIDEO]
TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Iran advanced to the FIFA U-17 World Cup after crashing Australia in the 2012 AFC U-16 Championship on Sunday.
The Iranian outfit pummeled Australia 5-1 in Tehran’s Dastgerdi Stadium and advanced to the semifinals. Ali Dustimehr’s boys will play Uzbekistan on Wednesday.
Iran’s Saeed Ezzatollahi slots home from the penalty spot in the 31st minute. Reza Karmollachaab scored the second goal in the 35th minute. Mohammad-Reza Bazaj extended Iran’s lead to 3-0 in the 64th minute. With 10 minutes remaining, Ali Rigi made it 4-0. Bai Antonio pulled a goal back for Australia in the 87th minute but Karmollachaab scored once again in the dying moments of the match.
The FIFA U-17 World Championship will be held in the UAE in 2013.
Nigeria is the most successful nation in the tournament’s history, with three titles and three runner ups.
