Queiroz: World Cup qualifiers are like a marathon
TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz says the World Cup qualification is like the Olympic marathon, not a sprint.
Iran is scheduled to face South Korea on October 16 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
“To get three points is so important for us since we missed three points against Lebanon. But there are 12 points left. This is like the marathon not a sprint. We will do our best to defeat South Korea,” Carlos Queiroz said.
“I am sure the Korean team will play more attacking football than Lebanon and our players will find more opportunities to score. We are fully aware of the importance of the match,” the Portuguese added.
“I believe that we will show a good performance against South Korea and get a good result against them,” Queiroz concluded.
Iran is grouped with South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Lebanon for the final round of the Asian World Cup qualifying stages and need to finish at least second to qualify for Brazil 2014.
Carlos Queiroz’s team is second in Group A, three points under South Korea, who has seven points.
