daei-laughing4TEHRAN TIMES – ZURICH, Former Iran coach Ali Daei said on Sunday that Barcelona striker Lionel Messi deserves to win his fourth successive Ballon d’Or awards.
 
The 25-year-old will vie with his teammate Andres Iniesta and iconic Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo for the prize.
 
Messi finished 2012 with an astonishing 91 goals in all competitions and broke Gerd Mueller’s 40-year record for the most goals in a calendar year.
 
“I will represent the Iranians in the ceremony. As I’ve already said, Lionel Messi will win the prize,” Daei said.
 
“Pep Guardiola has a little chance to win the award since he has been without a team in the season,” Rah Ahan current coach added.
 
Daei, who will fly for Zurich, Switzerland early Monday, will return to Iran on Tuesday.
 
Daei is world’s all-time leading goalscorer in international matches. He scored 109 goals in 149 games for Iran.
