Iran hammers Iraq in Asian Beach Soccer qualifiers
TEHRAN TIMES – DOHA, Iran topped Group D of the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup AFC qualifiers with a 10-0 win over Iraq in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday.
The Iranian outfit, who humiliated the Philippines 20-0 in its opening match on Tuesday, trounced Iraq 10-0 in the match held in Doha’s Katara Beach.
The Iranian team will play China on Thursday.
The 16 Asian teams are divided into four groups of four teams in the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup AFC qualifiers, which will run until January 26.
The top team from each group will advance to the semi-finals, while the finalists and the third-place team will qualify for the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti in September.
The winner will receive a cash prize of QR12, 000 ($3300) and the runner-up team get QR8,000. The third place finisher will be awarded QR5,000.
