Team Omid downs Turkey to win Qatar tournament [VIDEO]
Persianfootball.com – DOHA, After victories over Morocco and hosts Qatar, Iran’s u-23 squad also defeated Turkey’s Olympic squad on Monday, winning the friendly tournament at the Persian Gulf in style.
Iran only needed a draw to clinch the title, but Alireza Mansourian’s men had the worst possible start when they fell behind less than two minutes into the match.
But Payam Sadeghian had the perfect response just moments later and the Zob Ahan attacker, who had been rested in the previous game after his match-winning goal in the first match, added a second still in first half.
Iran had numerous chances to increase the lead after the break, but especially the just 19-year-old Alireza Jahanbaksh was too sloppy with his chances.
However, Mohsen Mosalman finally added a third while Turkey’s late goal turned out to be nothing more than a conciliation.
Besides winning the tourney, Payam Sadeghian was crowned as topscorer, Naft Tehran’s Alireza Beiranvand selected as best goalkeeper while playmaker Mohsen Mosalman was named MVP of the competition.
Below come Iran’s starting lineup and the match highlights from PFDC TV.
