Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Former Iran football coach Branko Ivankovic is among the candidates vying to replace Yahya Golmohammadi in Persepolis football team.

Golmohammadi was sacked last week after his team lost to Sepahan in a penalty shootout in Iran’s Hazfi Cup.

“Our priority is an Iranian football coach but Branko (Ivankovic) is one of the candidates,” Persepolis General Manager Mohammad Ruyanian was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Branko was appointed as Iran football coach in 2002 and led the team to 2006 World Cup, but was sacked after the Persians failed to advance past the group stage.

Mohammad Mayelikohan and Hamid Derakhshan are also shortlisted for the job.

Persepolis finished in 7th place in the Iranian Professional League (IPL) under the guidance of Golmohammadi.
