Oman test ahead of Iran
Persianfootball.com – MUSCAT, Iran’s national team will be without almost a complete A team when they take on Oman in a friendly match in Muscat on Wednesday, at 5.30 pm Tehran time.
All legionnaires and Esteghlal players are unavailable and will join the rest of the team after the game.
From the initially invited 24 players, striker Mehdi Seyed Salehi and goalkeeper Shahab Gordan had to pull out due to personal reasons whereas leftback Mehrdad Pouladi is still sidelined injured after a foot injury.
Finally, the Persian Gulf leagues most dangerous player (13 goals, 11 assists) Mohammad-Reza Khalatbari did not accompy the team to Muscat due to fatigue on Iran boss’ Carlos Queiroz’ order.
A part of the coaching staff stayed in Iran together with Khalatbari to continue training with the Sepahan attacker and the arriving legionnaires Andranik Teymourian and Daniel Davari.
The test in Oman’s capital could already be the final for Queiroz’ men. A planned friendly against Iraq five days later is still in doubt.
Iran are preparing for the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Qatar (June 4), Lebanon (June 11) and South Korea (June 18).
Oman will take on Iraq and Jordan in the same competition in June.
