AFC – ULSAN, Coach Choi Kang-hee insists Korea Republic are determined to end their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a victory despite needing only a draw against Iran at Munsu Stadium on Tuesday to advance from Group A.

Korea edged out Uzbekistan 1-0 in Seoul last week to leapfrog the Central Asians at the top of the table to remain on course for an eighth consecutive FIFA World Cup finals appearance with just one game remaining.

But with Iran needing to win to guarantee their own qualification, Choi is expecting a tough game as the hosts look to do without suspended midfielder Park Jong-woo and the injured Kim Nam-il.

“It is the last match in the qualifiers and we will have to play well to get a good result,” said Korea coach Choi (pictured).

“We have had some difficulties in our previous matches, but this is out final match and we want to achieve a good result.

“The players have the passion to beat Iran, but we expect a good game.”

Iran also took advantage of Uzbekistan’s defeat last week as Carlos Queiroz’s side recorded a 4-0 win over Lebanon to move up into second place a point behind the Koreans.

With Uzbekistan set to entertain Qatar in Tashkent, Iran know a win in Ulsan will secure qualification while anything less would open the door for the Central Asians who head into the final round of fixtures two points adrift in third place.

With a play-off spot awaiting the third-place finisher, Iran do hold a slightly superior goal difference should Iran draw and Uzbekistan beat Qatar.

Queiroz is set to again be without Fulham striker Ashkan Dejagah as he looks to lead Iran to a fourth FIFA World Cup finals appearance having failed to qualify for South Africa 2010.

Reza Ghoochannejhad is again set to assume Iran’s goal-scoring role in the absence of Dejagah with the Belgium-based striker having scored the winner against Qatar at the start of June before also finding the target last week against Lebanon.

“We want to play well and advance to Brazil along with Korea,” said Iran coach Queiroz.

“Korea are a good team and we know that it will be a good game. We need to play well if we want to qualify for Brazil.”
