Esteghlal coach criticizes his players
TehranTimes, TEHRAN – Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoei criticized his players’ below-par performance against Saba on Saturday night.
Esteghlal edged Saba 1-0 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in the Iranian Professional League (IPL) thanks to a goal from Mohammad Ghazi in the 32nd minute but the performance left the Ghalenoei frustrated with his team.
“I think it’s our weakest performance during my coaching career. In my opinion, Esteghlal did not deserve to win the match. We had nothing to say at the field,” Ghalenoei said in the post match news conference.
“I have to apologize to the fans due to the performance. In the first half we didn’t play bad but in the second half we were terrible. We should have lost to Saba,” he added.
“I am worried about Esteghlal. In this match our keeper (Mehdi Rahmati) was the man of the match. I am not satisfied with the rest of the team,” Esteghlal coach stated.
