Jlloyd Samuel then restored the lead after 66 minutes before Team Melli skipper Javad Nekounam sealed the win with his 86th minute spot kick.
Esteghlal, like leaders Foolad Khuzestan, have won five games and lost one, but have ben deducted a point due to misbehaviour on the ranks and therefore trail the front runners by a point.
