Persianfootball.com – ZURICH, Iran lost one spot in the latest FIFA ranking, but retained the second position among all AFC teams, following the 2-1 win over Thailand in AFC Asian Cup qualifying.

Iran stand in 49th position of the ranking, five spots behind Japan and six spots ahead of Uzbekistan.

Fellow World Cup participants Korea Republic (56th) and Australia (57th) as well as hopefuls Jordan (70th) follow.

The current ranking already determined the top seeds of the eight World Cup final groups next year, with the top seven – Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay and Switzerland joinin Brazil as group heads.

Should Uruguay lose the intercontinental playoffs against dark horses Jordan in November and surprisingly miss out on the World Cup, the Netherlands would take Uruguay’s place.
