Queiroz approached for friendlies, IFF name Ghana and Italy
Persianfootball.com – TEHRAN, Carlos Queiroz, Iran’s national team coach who is currently in Brazil awaiting tomorrow’s much-anticipated 2014 World Cup draw, has told reporters that he has been approached by numerous World Cup teams for friendlies.
Iran’s football federation has been unable to secure friendlies and have instead relied on mandatory Asian Cup qualifiers to give the team much-needed match practice. Queiroz has publicly criticized IFF lack of preparatory measures and inability for the government-funded federation to ensure that the team enters next year’s tournament in optimal shape.
In related news, the Iranian Football Federation (IFF) publicly announced today that they were approached by the African giants, Ghana, and four-time World Cup champions, Italy, to play friendlies. Both teams made it known that their invitations were conditional on not being placed in the same group as Iran.
The stronghold of Querioz’s 3-year tenure in Iran has been his ability to give Iran an impressive defensive discipline and injected European-based players, such as Ashkan Dejagah, Reza Goochannejhad and Danial Davari that has helped boost Iran’s caliber and pedigree. Iran was able to top group that included Asian heavyweights, South Korea and Uzbekistan, and conceded the least amount of goals in all their Asian World Cup qualifiers compared with all other teams.
