Esteghlal beats Saba in IPL

Loading...Tehran Times – QOM, Esteghlal football team defeated Saba in the Iranian Professional League (IPL) on Friday.
IPL title holder defeated Saba 2-1 at the Yadegare-Emam Stadium in Qom. The victory pushed Esteghlal up to third place, one point behind leader Persepolis.
Mohammad Ghazi opened the scoring for the visiting team in the 40th minute. Pejman Montazeri extended Esteghlal’s lead in the 66th minute.
With 10 minutes remaining, Reza Enayati pulled a goal back.
“I am happy since we defeated Saba for the first time in Qom. Esteghlal played well in this match but we conceded a stupid goal,” Amir Ghalenoei said in the post match news conference.
Elsewhere, Sepahan defeated Tractor Sazi 2-1 in Tabriz. Mehdi Sharifi and Omid Ebrahimi scored for Sepahan in the 45th and 90th minutes and Karim Ansarifard was on target in the 83rd minute for Tractor.
Naft defeated Rah Ahan 3-1 and stayed at second place on goal difference. Damash lost to Foolad 2-1 in its home game.
On Thursday, Persepolis edged Saipa thanks to a header by Mohsen Mosalman. Fajr Sepasi and Gostaresh Foolad played out a goalless draw. Esteghlal Sanati lost 2-0 to Malavan in home and Zob Ahan and Mes drew 1-1.
