Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Persepolis football team stayed top of the Iranian Professional League (IPL) table after defeating Malavan on Tuesday.

The Iranian giant edged the Bandar Anzali based team thanks to a first half goal from Mohammad Reza Khalatbari at the Takhti Stadium.

“I’m happy since we defeated Malavan in Anzali after eight years. We could have scored more but we couldn’t take the chances we created,” Persepolis coach Ali Daei said in the post match news conference.

“Persepolis deserves to win the title but we need more time,” he added.

Esteghlal closed the gap on the IPL leader Persepolis to one point with a 1-0 win over Damash in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

Hanif Omranzadeh found the back of the net in the 40th minute.

Elsewhere, Sepahan thrashed Fajr Sepasi 3-0, Saipa edged Zob Ahan 1-0, Mes was held to a 1-1 draw by Tractor Sazi, Foolad played out a goalless draw with Rah Ahan and Naft drew 0-0 with Esteghlal Sanati.
