Iran Drops 4 Spots in FIFA World Ranking, Hold Top Asian Rank
Persianfootball.com – ZURICH, Iran has dropped four spots in FIFA’s latest world ranking report. Iran has slid to the 38th best team in the world but still retain their top rank in Asia. The Japanese, Australians and Uzbekis round out the top four teams in Asia, respectively.
The latest slip in rankings signals Iran’s lack of match friendlies. Iran is reeling from a handful of cancelled friendlies which has frustrated the Team Melli faithful. Many have criticized the Iranian Football Federation for not fully supporting and preparing the Persian Cheetahs for June’s prestigious World Cup tournament.
Most of the rankings were determined by devaluation of older matches and some friendly international games. A new ranking will be released in March.
Spain, Germany and Argentina still held their first, second and third positions in the world, respectively.
