Iran grouped with Saudi Arabia at AFC U-16 Championship

Tehran Times – BANGKOK, Iran has been drawn along with two-time champion Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Syria in Group D of the AFC U-16 Championship 2014.

In the draw took place in Bangkok, Thailand, the host was drawn in Group A with two-time winner Korea Republic, Oman, who won this championship in 1996 and 2000, and Malaysia.

Last edition’s runner up Japan, who won this title twice in 1994 and 2006, has been pitted against Australia, two-time champion China and Hong Kong in Group B.

Group C comprises of defending champion Uzbekistan, Kuwait, DPR Korea and Nepal.

A total of 16 teams will participate in the competition, which will be played from September 6 to 20 in Bangkok, the top four teams will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be played in Chile next year.
