Kaffashian: we wanted to extend Queiroz’s contract
Tasnim – TEHRAN, Head of Iran Football Federation Ali Kaffashian announced that Carlos Queiroz’s contract extension was an option considered by Iran, but noted that the federation cannot afford to pay his salary.
Queiroz said on Sunday that the Iranian Football Federation has not yet negotiated with him to extend his contract, but Kaffashian rejected his claim.
“I talked to Queiroz in person and offered him a contract extension, but the existing problem is the amount of his salary and that of his assistants, which we have to pay in dollars,” Kaffashian told the Tasnim News Agency.
“We have to pay him and his assistants some 4, 5 million dollars a year,” he explained, adding that the federation cannot afford to pay that amount of money.
Kaffashian then called on the government to provide the football federation with the financial supports.
We want Queiroz to stay at the helm of Iran’s national football team after 2014 World Cup, but the problem remains to be lack of financial resources to extend his contract, Kaffashian explained.
Asked about the IFF’s plans to find a replacement for Queiroz, Kaffashian said, “We have not made any decicion on the issue so far, and we should wait to see how the things will go on.
