Iran could make surprise World Cup, McManaman says
Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Former Real Madrid winger Steve McManaman said that Iran has a chance to qualify for the next stage of the 2014 World Cup.
Iran will face Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Nigeria in Group F of the World Cup.
“Iran has a difficult task to qualify for the second round. Nigeria is more experienced team than Iran. Also, humid weather in Brazil will be a privilege for the African team,” McManaman told ISNA news agency.
“Without a doubt, Argentina will advance to the next stage as the first team. Three other teams will have to compete for the second place,” former Liverpool player added.
“Argentina is a favorite to win the title in the World Cup. The team could be a serious rival for host Brazil,” he added.
“Always, there have been the teams in the World Cup, who have made surprise the world and Iran can be a dark horse in this edition,” McManaman said.
“Carlos Queiroz is a great coach. He has worked at the great teams such as Manchester United and Real Madrid and takes advantage of valuable experiences,” McManaman concluded.
