Persianfootball.com – SALVADOR/TEHRAN, Carlos Queiroz confirmed his resignation as head coach of the Iranian football national team after the 3-1 defeat against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Wednesday.

The former Portuguese national team coach mentioned in a press conference that he had been waiting for IFF to offer him an extension of his contract which will end by the end of July 2014 for more than 11 months.

“I’ve shown my commitment to this project, but I haven’t received any new contract offer over the past 11 months.”

“It’s been an honour for me to work for Iran, I’ve fallen in love with the country. But you can’t have a marriage when only one side wants to commit.”

“I will always have Iranian football, my players and the fans in my heart.”, Queiroz added.

Although IFF president Ali Kaffashian mentioned in front of Iranian journalists that the federation will negotiate with Queiroz after their return to Tehran, it seems that Queiroz’ decision is final after waiting for such a long period.

Iranian sports newspapers speculate that the federation wants to gain time to introduce former Foolad Khuzestan coach and former Iran assistant coach Hossein Faraki as new Iran head coach in view of the upcoming Asian Cup 2015 in Australia.
