AFCasiancup.com – TEHRAN, Team Melli is set to receive a massive boost ahead of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup with coach Carlos Queiroz set to extend his contract until the end of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Both parties agreed to finalize the contract on August 1 during a session at the federation’s headquarters last Friday, Tehran Times stated on cq-kafashian09-1(26)Sunday.

“We have to negotiate about the contract in the details,” Queiroz was quoted as saying by Tehran Times. “I wish to stay as Iran coach. The Iranians will always stay in my heart. I like to continue my job but the deal has not yet finalized.”

The Portuguese led the Iranian national side at the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil where the team finished bottom of Group F after they drew 0-0 with Nigeria, suffered a late 1-0 loss to Argentina and succumbed to Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-1.

With the contract extension, the 61-year-old coach will be aiming to lead Iran to a record equaling fourth AFC Asian Cup title when the tournament heads to Australia in January.

The Iranians will line up against the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar in Group C and will kick off their campaign against the Bahrainis on January 11 at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
