Persepolis to sign Arsenal defender
Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Iranian club Persepolis are looking into signing former Arsenal defender Daniel Jesse Boateng, according to a report by Fars News Agency on Wednesday.
After struggling to get a win in the first two weeks of Iran’s Professional League, the red giants are looking to strengthen their defense line.
Given the negotiations between Persepolis and Boateng’s agent, obtaining a visa seems to be the only factor delaying the trasnfer. Persepolis officials have sent a letter to the Iranian Consulate in London asking to facilitate the England defender’s visit to Iran.
The 21-year old defender who has previously played for Swindon Town, Oxford United and Hibernian is currently a free agent after being released by Arsenal.
Persepolis are also reportedly close to sign Costa Rican defender Michael Umaña. The 32-year old defender who was a regular starter in Costa Rica’s surprise World Cup campaign is expected to arrive in Tehran in the coming days to sign a contract with the red giants.
