No one has called me from IFF, says Queiroz
Tehran Times – TEHRAN, While there is a lot of uncertainty over the future of Iran’s national football team coaching role, the Team Melli manager in 2014 World Cup Carlos Queiroz stated no one from Iran’s Football Federation has contacted him.
“I cannot tell you when I can come back to Iran. Until today I haven’t receive any call from IFF,” Queiroz told Tehran Times.
The Portuguese coach whose visa was due to expire, left Iran last Friday without reaching an agreement with IFF to sign a contract extension. The situation has gone from bad to worse for Iran after British media linked the 61-year old with Leeds United job.
Queiroz spent five years as a member of Manchester United coaching staff over two spells at the club, working as the assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson winning three Premier League title and a Champions League final victory.
With less than four months left before the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, the Iran’s national football team is without a coach.
Iranian media acknowledged that Hossein Faraki tops the list of candidates for leading the national team if IFF couldn’t reach an agreement with Queiroz.
Under the tutelage of Carlos Queiroz, the Iranian national football team played out a goalless draw against Nigeria, suffered a late 1-0 defeat against Argentina, and lost 3-1 to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group F of the 2014 World Cup.”
