No friendly games in September helped Team Melli go on top in Asia
Persianfootball.com – ZURICH, The latest FIFA World ranking has been released today. Surprisingly Team Melli who was coachless until Tuesday and played no games after the 2014 World Cup has managed to somehow occupy the top position in the AFC zone by overtaking Japan.
The top five positions in Asia are Iran (44), Japan (48), Uzbekistan (58), South Korea (63) and Jordan (69). Iran’s 2015 AFC Asian Cup Group C opponents are ranked as follow UAE (73), Qatar (96) and Bahrain (104).
2015 AFC Asian Cup host Australia is ranked 84.
Venezuela who is scheduled to meet Iran in a friendly match in October has crashed from 29 to 66 and is amongst the worse movers along with Togo from 87 to 125 and Macedonia from 76 to 112. The best leapers were Guatemala from 134 to 57, Antigua from 149 to 80 and Cyprus from 140 to 85.
World Top 5 are Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Netherlands and Belgium. The only difference between this month and the previous month being Colombia and Netherlands swapping places.
