Iran u-19 bow out in group stage
Persianfootball.com – MYANMAR, After the embarassing group stage exit of the u-22 team in the Asian Games, the u-19 repeated the disastrous performance and bowed out of the AFC u-19 championship group stage.
After the 1-2 loss against Thailand on Thursday, Iran also lost 0-1 to Yemen, making the final match versus hosts Myanmar on Monday a meaningless game.
Captained by Atletico Madrid youth player Saeid Ezzatollahi but without the injured midfield gem Ali Hazami Iran again dominated the proceedings despite an early setback as Yemen scored from the first counter attack.
But Ali Doustimehr’s men, who had impressed at the u-17 World Cup last year, lacked concentration and precision in the attacking third while once more proving vulnerable to counter attacks.
And so Yemen were able to hold the result until the final whistle with some good saves from their goalkeeper, some luck and plenty of timewasting.
