Zob Ahan knocks 10-man Persepolis out of Iran’s Hazfi Cup
Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Persepolis was knocked out of the Iran’s Hazfi Cup on Friday at the hands of Zob Ahan football team.
The Isfahan-based team advanced to the final match after a 2-1 victory over the Iranian popular outfit in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
Mohammad Nouri gave Persepolis a lead just after the hour-mark.
Persepolis captain’s effort was cancelled out by Morteza Tabrizi in the 69th minute.
Three minutes later, Persepolis was reduced to 10-man after defender Michael Umana collected a second yellow card.
In the dying moments of the match, Zob Ahan Brazilian defender Carlos Santos de Jesus opened Persepolis’s goal with a header.
“First, I congratulate Zob Ahan but I have to say we didn’t deserve to lose. I believe that Umana did not deserve to be shown a second yellow card,” Persepolis coach Derakhshan said in the post match news conference.
Zob Ahan will meet the winner of Padideh and Naft in the final match.
