Persianfootball.com – BRISBANE, Iran boss Carlos Queiroz has been fined 3,000 USD for critisizing the referee, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Queiroz had lashed out at Australian referee Ben Williams after Iran’s 2-0 opening win over Bahrain, complaining about repeated foul play and especially elbowing which was not sanctioned by the referee.

“It’s clear even if you talk politely, with respect, education, calm, cool, you’re not entitled to talk about the referees. After 32 years of my work in football I was never told I cannot give an opinion about the game. Maybe it’s only because of the sponsors,” Queiroz said in a press conference despite having been warned not to comment on refereeing by AFC earlier, according to the Australian newspapers’ website.

Iran, who have already qualified for the quarter final stage after two wins, will take on the also qualified UAE in a battle for the top spot of group C on Monday.
