Asian Cup: Iraq beats Palestine
Tasnim – CANBERRA, Iraqi national football team will play Iran in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup quarter-final on Friday.
The Iraqi football team defeated Palestine 2-0 in Canberra on Tuesday.
Iraq’s breakthrough came in the 48th minute when striker Younis Mahmood headed the ball into the goal.
Ahmed Yasin put the result beyond doubt in the 88th minute with a shot from the left post.
The victory has sent Iraq to the knock-out stage of the tournament with six points, after group leaders Japan sailed to a 2-0 victory against Jordan in Melbourne.
Iraq lost to Iran 2-1 in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup group stage in Doha. The Iraqi team also lost to Team Melli 1-0 in a friendly in Sydney ahead of the current competition.
