Persepolis wins after five weeks in IPL
Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Persepolis football team defeated Padideh to earn its first victory after five weeks in the Iranian Professional League (IPL) on Friday.
Omid Alishah’s second-half header earned Persepolis a 1-0 win over Padideh in Mashhad.
The team defeated its arch-rival Esteghlal 2-1 in the IPL Week 15 and lost to Naft (2-1), Foolad (2-1), Zob Ahan (1-0) and Malavan (1-0) respectively.
“We needed the victory because it took a lot of pressure off my shoulders. I will fight until the last game of the season,” Persepolis coach Hamid Derakhshan said in the post-match news conference.
Sepahan beat Foolad 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mehdi Sharifi in the 24th minute in Ahvaz.
Tractor Sazi defeated Saba 3-2 in Qom and Gostaresh Foolad was held to a goalless draw by struggling Naft Masjed Soleyman in Tabriz.
On Thursday, Malavan defeated relegation-threatened Rah Ahan 3-0 and IPL leader Naft drew with Paykan 1-1.
