AFC – DOHA, The first steps to the 2015 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup took place on the sands of the Katara beach on Monday, with the first round of group stage matches in the AFC Beach Soccer Championship.

Laos pulled off the shock of the day when the tournament debutants overturned a 5-3 deficit to defeat hosts Qatar, while the UAE, Japan and continental champions Iran – Asia’s three qualifiers to the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti – all made winning starts to their respective campaigns to reach Portugal 2015.

Asian Beach Soccer champions Iran made a winning start to the defence of their continental title but were made to work hard for their 3-2 win over Lebanon.

The Lebanese, who are coached by Iranian Karim Moghaddam, broke the deadlock midway through the first period, before Ahmed Grada’s eighth minute opener was cancelled out in the 13th minute by Mohammadali Sadeghi with what was the only goal of the second period.

Farid Boulokbashi put Iran 2-1 up with a 29th minute penalty before Mohammad Ahmadzadeh’s 35th minute strike gave a little bit of breathing space for Iran, although a Mohamad Halawi goal seconds later ensured it was nervous finish for the Asian champions.
