Qatar seeks Iran’s help for 2022 World Cup
FNA – TEHRAN, Head of the Iranian Football Federation Ali Kafashian announced that his Qatari counterpart has called on Iran to help the Arab country with hosting the world cup in 2022.
“The Qatari football federation has officially asked Iran to help the Arab country in holding the upcoming 2022 World Cup in that country,” Kafashian told reporters in the city of Zurich, Switzerland, on Saturday.
He noted that Iran has also asked Qatar to present an official memorandum of understanding for relevant cooperation in order to be signed by the two federations.
The 2022 World Cup will be the 22nd FIFA World Cup, an international football tournament that is scheduled to take place in Qatar in 2022. It will be the first Arab country to host the World Cup and the first time it is held in the Middle East region. The format has not been announced, but under the current format, the tournament will involve 32 national teams, including the host nation.
Instead of being held in the traditional period of June and July, the tournament will be held in late November. It has a reduced timeframe of around 28 days, with the final being held on 18 December 2022, which is also Qatar National Day.
