2015 Beach Soccer WC: Iran Take on Brazil on Sunday

PersianFootball.com – After a phenomenal start to the tournament that marked Team Melli’s first ever victory in a World Cup opener, Iran will take on the 2nd ranked Canarinha on Sunday at 17:30, in Espinho, Portugal.  A regulation time victory for Team Melli will guarantee their place in the quarterfinals and top spot in the group.

The two teams have only faced off once in the World Cup in 2013, when Brazil defeated Iran 4-1.  But Team Melli set that record straight when they defeated Brazil 3-1 on penalties in the Samsung Intercontinental Cup later that year, en route to winning that competition for the first time.

With no subsequent clashes between the two Beach Soccer giants, Sunday’s Group of Death encounter promises to be a fast-paced and exciting visual extravaganza for the fans.  A victory for Team Melli would set up a duel to the death between Brazil and Spain on Tuesday.

A victory for Marco Octavio’s men would also set a new record for the number of points obtained in the group stages of the World Cup – Team Melli has never managed to get more than three points in the group stage, despite reaching the quarterfinals in 2013.

After a disappointing performance in the Asian Championship earlier this year that saw the defending champions finish with only bronzeware, Team Melli fans are looking for total redemption by reaching the final of the World Cup in Portugal.
