Fernando Hierro thanks Iranian authorities for charity match
Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Former Real Madrid captain Fernando Hierro thanked the Iranian organizers because of arranging the charity match in Tehran.
World Stars football team defeated Iranian Stars 3-0 in a charity match held at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran on Friday.
World Stars team captained by Michel Salgado included Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Fabio Cannavaro, Guti, Fernando Hierro, Fernando Couto, Vitor Baia, Marcel Desailly, Gaizka Mendieta, Edgar Davids, Jari Litmanen, and Pauleta.
“I would like to thank the Iranian authorities for their hospitality. I am happy to be here but I like to see a packed stadium next time,” Hierro said.
“Iranian team played well against us. Their players have been the great stars in Iran and Asia in the past,” he added.
The World Stars team takes the field once a month in a country to raise funds for people who are suffering from a disease or disaster.
Support for Ebola patients in Africa was one of the latest fundraisers of this team.
